Progress, prosperity and supremacy of justice cannot be achieved without promotion of the education sector, said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Tuesday.
The CM said this while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the new campus of Superior University in Raiwind. He said that education was very important to create awareness in society and promote research. The Punjab government is paying special attention to uplift the education sector of the province, he said. The CM also rewarded cars to two teachers of the university who had performed well and gave a cheque of Rs 50,000 on behalf of the university to a student who had obtained second position in ICom.
Neglected: Shahbaz said that the education sector had been neglected for the last 60 years and it was the reason the country was lagging behind other countries. Citing the example of Sri Lanka, he said that its literacy rate was 99 percent while Pakistan’s was 50 to 60 percent.
Double standard: Shahbaz said that Pakistan had double standards with regard to education as the elite class had excellent facilities while millions of children belonging to poor families were forced to study in schools which did not even have furniture, water, electricity and other basic necessities.
Earlier, the university’s director and rector also addressed the function and highlighted the superb performance of the university. Prisons Minister Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor, MPAs, other senior officials and a large number of teachers and students were also present at the occasion
