Students from restive areas to study free at PU

LAHORE-AS per announcement of the Punjab Chief Minister, Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran has announced that one-year education expenses, including fee, dues and boarding and lodging charges, will not be charged from the residents (IDPs) of Swat, Lower Dir, Upper Dir, Malakand Agency, Shangla and Buner, who are studying in any department of the varsity. A notification has been issued in this regard to all the deans of the faculties and heads of teaching departments.

Earlier, the vice-chancellor also announced that PU would provide Rs 3000 monthly scholarship to four students each referred by Punjab Chief Minister Mian Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif till the completion of their degrees. These students include Farhan Khaatlaue, Faiza Faiz, Ismail and Muhammad Hanan Khan.

Moreover, a PU committee established for the welfare of Internally Displaced Persons decided to build a girls’ school in Swat from its welfare funds. The Punjab University Medical & Relief Camp established at Shah Mansoor, Swabi, also provided medical treatment, medicines and other facilities to the affectees for about two months. The Punjab University also donated Rs 1000,000 to the Punjab Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and the same amount to the Punjab Governor’s Relief Fund for IDPs.
