US to help promote education

LAHORE
US Principal Officer Carmela Conroy called on Punjab Governor Salman Taseer on Thursday.

A handout said various issues pertaining to cooperation in educational and trade sectors came under discussion during the meeting. Taseer congratulated Conroy on her appointment as the US principal officer at US Consulate.

The governor said Punjab was the land of saints and the people of this province were very hospitable and courteous. He said there was no room for fanaticism in our society, adding the elements involved in suicide attacks or killing innocent people had nothing to do with Islam.

Taseer said that the PPP government believed in the policy of national reconciliation and this was the reason that President Asif Ali Zardari took all parties on board and gave them a share in power. He said in past, opposition members were mostly targeted but now they were being treated equally.

The US diplomat assured the governor that the US would extend all out cooperation to Pakistan for the promotion of universal education and teachers training.
